Get Ready to Read!

.......... .........

The Anchorage Public Library Ready to Read Resource Center, located at Z.J. Loussac Public Library, is a statewide resource for anyone who works with infants and toddlers anywhere in Alaska.

The Center's mission is to promote early literacy development throughout Alaska by providing books and other resources to children birth to age three and their caregivers.

The Center does this by loaning three types of reading kits to organizations that serve infants and toddlers, such as (but not limited to):

  • Child care centers
  • Licensed family child care providers
  • Early childhood education agencies
  • Libraries
  • Health clinics
  • Faith-based organizations

With 224 reading kits containing nearly 6,000 items, the Ready to Read Resource Center hopes to engage all of Alaska's youngest children with high quality, age-appropriate books.

Comments from users:

"I am very grateful for the wonderful service and the great materials available through the Ready to Read Resource Center that have helped start our children on an early road to reading success."

"... we feature Terrie Weckerle and the Ready to Read tubs and materials.
The group – which includes very rural communities with limited access to
resources – is thrilled to hear about the possibilities available to them."
